Dragon Boat making 2007
Chun-Chao, has been leading the workshop, which created the heads and tails for the Dragon Boats. He worked with artist Wei Wang yand oung people on Tyneside from 20 different ethnic backgrounds at the Nunsmoor Centre in Newcastle. He said: "The project has raised the young people's self esteem and creative ability, at the same time as teaching them something new about a different culture. When they were creating the dragon's head and tail - some of the young people were asking questions about what they were making, which instigated the discussions about Chinese heritage. This has been a special project that will hopefully produce lasting memories for all of those individuals involved."
The special Dragon Boat centre piece will be seen by a public audience when it takes to the water at Newburn Leisure Centre on Sunday 23rd September during the Chinese Arts Association's annual Dragon Boat Festival.
