Dr. Chun-Chao Chiu is an artist and art lecturer working in Cambridge and North East.
He works in galleries, museum,schools, youth clubs, libraries, art festivals and University of Sunderland Centre for Lifelong Learning.
He has been working in Chinese and Western painting, watercolour, drawing, sculpture, and installation.
This website is mainly designed to provide an overview of his projects. It includes
his background, related artwork, educational workshops, and the rationale behind his art creation.
He specialises in variety art forms, including Chinese and Western painting styles- drawing,
sculpture, and installation art, in order to respond to contemporary experience. He has had major
exhibitions at Waygood Gallery, Newcastle, Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester, Alnwick Gardens,
and Levens Hall Garden in Cumbria.
He is an experienced art educator, providing workshops in many schools across the North East
region and lectures to the public on Chinese painting in the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. Through
his practice he aims to increase understanding of cultural diversity within art education, as well as
exploring how to use new materials to express traditional Chinese themes within the context
of modern Britain.
He leads arts workshops focusing on the traditional Chinese arts and crafts. In 2007/08, he
worked with schools in Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead to make two 50 metre long dragons
for the launch event of East 08, supported by Culture 10, Newcastle Gateshead Initiative.
